In the summer of 2024, we had the chance to escape to Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic as a couple.

Part work, part fun it was all amazing. So much so, now we’re looking to bring the family as it’s the perfect getaway where everyone—from kids to adults—can enjoy luxury, adventure, and relaxation.

Casa de Campo Resort is set on over 7,000 acres of lush tropical landscape. The renowned resort is known for its high-end amenities (golf carts at every room!), breathtaking views, and wide range of activities suitable for all ages.

Whether you’re eager for a round of world-class golf, some fun in the sun at the beach, or just looking to relax poolside, Casa de Campo ensures every member of the family has a wonderful time. There’s multiple delicious dining options and with an all-inclusive option, it quickly becomes a worry-free vacation.

Casa de Campo is a Caribbean paradise that delivers on every front.

Best Times of Year to Visit Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo is a year-round destination, thanks to the Dominican Republic’s tropical climate. However, certain seasons offer unique advantages:

  • Winter (December to April): This is peak season, with warm, dry weather and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Temperatures typically range from 77°F to 84°F (25°C to 29°C). This period is popular among travelers looking to escape colder climates, so it’s best to book early. Rates are generally higher during these months.
  • Shoulder Seasons (May to June and November): These months offer a good balance of mild weather, fewer crowds, and more affordable rates. The weather is warm, with average temperatures from 77°F to 88°F (25°C to 31°C), and occasional rain showers. This is an excellent time to visit for travelers who prefer a quieter experience without peak-season pricing. This is when we visited and it was sublime. It’s also the very beginning and end of hurricane season. If you’re going to test it, the start of the season is when I’d plan for.
  • Summer (July to October): Summer brings hotter, humid weather, with average temperatures from 79°F to 91°F (26°C to 33°C). While this period coincides with hurricane season in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic often experiences only brief afternoon showers. This season (because of the hurricane threat) generally sees the lowest rates and can be a great time for budget-conscious families.

Average Pricing for Hotel Rooms and Villas

Casa de Campo offers various accommodations to suit different budgets and preferences, from luxury hotel rooms to private villas. Rates fluctuate based on the season, room type, and available promotions, so it’s recommended to check their website or contact them directly for the latest offers.

  • Hotel Rooms: Standard rooms and suites provide a comfortable stay with upscale amenities.
    • Peak Season (December to April): Rates typically start around $450 to $600 per night for standard rooms, with suites priced between $800 and $1,200.
    • Shoulder Seasons (May to June, November): Prices are slightly lower, ranging from $350 to $500 per night for standard rooms and $600 to $1,000 for suites.
    • Summer (July to October): Rates are more affordable, starting at approximately $300 per night for standard rooms and $500 for suites.
    • The all-inclusive option is an add-on and increases the nightly rate.
  • Villas: Casa de Campo’s villas provide families with privacy, spacious layouts, and unique amenities such as private pools and dedicated staff. The villa community actually reminds me of two other (non-tropical) places we’ve visited in Sunriver, Oregon and Monterreal, Mexico.
    • Three-Bedroom Villas: Rates start around $1,200 to $1,500 per night during peak season and decrease to about $800 to $1,200 during off-peak months.
    • Larger Villas (Four+ Bedrooms): Peak season rates typically range from $2,500 to $5,000 per night, depending on size, location, and amenities. In the off-peak season, rates may drop to between $1,800 and $4,000 per night.

All-Inclusive Package Pricing: For families looking to take advantage of Casa de Campo’s all-inclusive option, this can add approximately $100 to $200 per person per day, depending on the season and current promotions. This package provides added value, especially for families planning to dine frequently at the resort and participate in various activities.

We used the all-inclusive option during our stay, it was super convenient and allowed us to drink and dine without worry. The beverages include most popular alcoholic drinks, however, if you wanted a premium liquor that was an added cost. On the food front, nearly all the restaurant options were included in the package, with two exceptions. The dining covered several different cuisines and restaurants across the entirety of the resort, to top it all off, it was delicious.

Special Promotions: Casa de Campo frequently offers promotions, such as early booking discounts, extended stay deals, and seasonal packages, so be sure to look at what’s available.

Casa de Campo is a Activities Paradise

Whether you’re enjoying a private adults-only trip or a family excursion, Casa de Campo caters to all adventure seekers and offers a wide range of activities that are perfect for every family member.

Golf

Casa de Campo is widely regarded as one of the premier golf destinations in the Caribbean, boasting three Pete Dye-designed courses, each with its own unique challenges and scenic views. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a family looking for a fun outing, the resort’s courses offer options for all skill levels.

  • Teeth of the Dog
    • The Teeth of the Dog course is Casa de Campo’s crown jewel, consistently ranked among the best in the Caribbean and globally. Carved along the rugged coastline, this 18-hole course is famous for its stunning oceanfront holes that add both beauty and challenge. With seven holes directly along the ocean, players will encounter wind, water hazards, and Dye’s notoriously tricky bunkers.
    • Cost: $395 per round for resort guests, $495 for non-resort guests. Twilight rates are also available starting at $295, allowing guests to enjoy a round at a reduced price in the later afternoon. Caddies are required at about another $90 per round.
  • Dye Fore
    • Dye Fore, another signature course at Casa de Campo, is known for its dramatic cliffside holes that overlook the Chavón River and Altos de Chavón village. This expansive 27-hole course (with three distinct 9-hole layouts: Chavón, Marina, and Lagos) provides a different experience on each set, offering beautiful views and diverse terrain. Players can enjoy sweeping views of the mountains, river, and the Caribbean Sea on the Chavón and Marina layouts, while Lagos brings water hazards and lush fairways.
    • Cost: $195 per round for resort guests, $295 for non-resort guests. This course is ideal for golfers looking to test their skills in a breathtaking setting. As with Teeth of the Dog, caddies are required on Dye Fore.
  • The Links
    • This is the course I played, twice. I’m an average golfer and I considered splurging to play one of the other links, but I was playing solo and it just didn’t seem worth it. Plus, it gives me a reason to return.
    • The Links course at Casa de Campo, a picturesque course nestled amidst inland lakes and rolling hills, offers a Scottish-links-style layout that is both challenging and forgiving. This 18-hole course is slightly more accessible (which is what I need), with open fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and fewer hazards, making it perfect for families or golfers wanting a more relaxed round.
    • While it may not have oceanfront holes, The Links offers lovely views of the Caribbean’s rolling countryside and some playful twists, with undulating greens and several water features. It also gives you a peak at many of the villas their beautiful grounds.
    • Cost: $135 per round for resort guests, $175 for non-resort guests, making it an affordable and enjoyable option for a casual family game.
  • Driving Range and Practice Facilities
    • Casa de Campo’s golf experience is enhanced by its extensive practice facilities, perfect for those looking to improve their game or warm up before a round.
    • I hit the range prior to my rounds and it was enjoyable. The range has both grass and turf tees, where golfers can practice their swing with complimentary range balls. Additionally, there are putting greens and chipping areas available, with instruction and coaching available from Casa de Campo’s resident golf pros.
    • Cost: Access to the driving range is typically included for guests playing a round of golf. For guests not playing on a course that day, driving range use is available for a small fee, generally around $15 for the day. It’s easily accessible with your room-provided golf cart.
  • Golf Packages and Discounts
    • If you’re heading to Casa de Campo with a more golf focused mindset than I did, the resort offers a range of golf packages that provide value for avid golfers or families looking to play multiple rounds. These packages often include bundled rounds across all three courses, complimentary access to the driving range, and additional perks such as club rentals or cart fees.
    • All-Inclusive Golf Package: Additionally, for those wanting to really get after it, there is an unlimited green fees at all three courses package, adding some pretty good value for golf-loving families or couples.

Other Activities

  • Horseback Riding: Casa de Campo’s equestrian center offers unique experiences, from scenic trail rides to professional polo lessons, which can be thrilling for all ages. The center also features a petting zoo that little ones love, making it a perfect family activity.
  • Water Sports: For those who love the water, the marina offers an array of non-motorized water sports, including paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling and more. There’s also options for deep-sea fishing and sailing. Families can rent equipment or take lessons to make the most of these activities, adding an adventurous twist to their beach time.
  • Family Fun Zone: This dedicated area offers activities like mini-golf, playgrounds, and arts and crafts, allowing kids and parents to spend quality time together. Organized games and events are also available, providing structured fun for all ages.
  • Altos de Chavón: Designed as a 16th-century Mediterranean village, Altos de Chavón includes an amphitheater, artisan shops, and a cultural center that gives families a taste of history and local arts. With its stunning views and lively atmosphere, it’s a must-visit spot for families looking to explore and capture memorable photos.
  • We had dinner in Altos de Chavón one night and it was beautiful. The drive (in our trusty golf cart) to get there from the main hotel was a bit of an experience (we only got lost once) but it was well worth the drive and provided a romantic evening of dining, walking and exploring shops.

A Breakdown of the Pools

If you’re like me, the pool is one of my primary destinations while in the tropics and Casa de Campo is home to multiple pools, each with a unique atmosphere:

main pool at at Casa de Campo

  • Pool at Minitas Beach: Centrally located, the main pool offers spectacular ocean views and plenty of seating, making it a lively area to socialize or relax. The pool’s proximity to food and beverage services ensures that families can enjoy refreshments without leaving their chairs, adding convenience and comfort. It’s also steps away from the ocean, making the toughest decision all day being ‘which do I swim in?’
  • Family Pool also at Minitas Beach: Positioned near the Kids’ Club, the family pool features a shallow area for safe play, making it ideal for younger children. With interactive features and playful designs, this pool gives kids a dedicated area to splash around while parents can relax nearby.
  • Main Hotel Pool: Tucked cozily below the main hotel and restaurant, this peaceful retreat is perfect for lounging and enjoying pool-side service and calm water. An in-pool bar also offers a fun atmosphere, which can really get going when larger parties (or events) are staying at the hotel. This pool is tucked away for privacy, with comfortable loungers and a quiet ambiance, perfect for unwinding with a good book or a cocktail.
  • Private Villa Pools: For families staying in villas, select accommodations come with their own private pools, providing an intimate space to swim and relax. These pools offer more privacy and convenience, allowing families to enjoy pool time at their own pace without the hustle and bustle.

The Beach Experience at Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo’s private Minitas Beach offers an idyllic, family-friendly beach experience with amenities and activities to suit every preference.

I found it to be amazing.

Nestled along the Caribbean coastline, Minitas Beach is known for its soft sands, calm waters, and lush surroundings, making it a perfect retreat for families, couples, and anyone seeking a serene escape. It featured all of these things during our stay, which made it a popular destination.

Though a word of caution, the beach is not right next to the hotel. As with many things, it’s a short drive in your golf cart to get there. Here’s what you can expect from a day at this exclusive beach.

Relaxation and Comfort

  • Lounge Chairs & Cabanas: While there are free chairs and umbrellas available for guests, you can rent more luxurious lounge chairs and shaded cabanas for a full day of beachside relaxation. We didn’t feel the need to do so, as there was plenty of available seating wherever we wanted. Once you’re comfortable, it’s pretty easy to unwind, read, or simply take in the stunning ocean views.
  • Beachside Service: The Minitas Beach Club offers convenient food and drink service right to your chair or cabana, allowing you to enjoy refreshing cocktails, mocktails, and snacks without interrupting your beach day. Plus, they have food trucks serving local fare throughout the day.

Water Activities for All Ages

For those who enjoy water adventures, Minitas Beach has a variety of activities suitable for families and thrill-seekers alike:

  • Non-Motorized Water Sports: Complimentary paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear are available for guests to explore the clear, shallow waters. Families with young children can safely enjoy these activities, as the calm waters make it easy for beginners.
  • Snorkeling & Marine Exploration: The crystal-clear water at Minitas Beach offers good visibility for snorkeling. The area is home to colorful fish and mild coral formations, giving families and individuals a chance to experience the local marine life up close.
  • Sailing and Deep-Sea Fishing: For those looking to venture further, the resort’s marina offers options for private boat rentals, sailing excursions, and deep-sea fishing trips. These experiences provide a thrilling way to explore the Caribbean and make unforgettable memories.

The Minitas Beach Club & Restaurant

Located right on the beach, the Minitas Beach Club & Restaurant combines relaxed, beachfront dining with gourmet offerings, making it a popular spot for both lunch and dinner.

  • Menu Variety: Serving fresh seafood, Dominican-inspired dishes, and a variety of international options, the restaurant has something for everyone. The family-friendly menu includes delicious options like ceviche, grilled meats, and fresh salads.
  • Ocean Views & Sunset Dining: With its prime location, the restaurant offers unbeatable ocean views, especially at sunset. Evening dinners here are a memorable experience, with the vibrant colors of the setting sun creating a breathtaking backdrop.
  • Not all-inclusive: This is one of the restaurants (along with SGB) that is not included in the all-inclusive package.

Children’s Play Area

Minitas Beach includes a dedicated children’s play area where little ones can have fun building sandcastles, playing games, and making new friends. The shallow waters are safe for kids to splash around in, giving parents peace of mind while they relax nearby.

Beachfront Entertainment & Events

Casa de Campo occasionally hosts themed beach events, including evening bonfires, family movie nights, and beachside celebrations. These events allow guests to enjoy the lively beach atmosphere, with music, dancing, and activities that bring the community together in a festive setting.

Be sure to check in with the concierge for details and a schedule of events during your stay.

Private Beach Access for Villa Guests

For villa guests, Casa de Campo offers additional private beach amenities, including exclusive cabanas and reserved areas, ensuring an extra level of privacy and personalized service. Many villas also provide easy access to the beach via private paths or short golf cart rides, allowing guests to enjoy Minitas Beach at their leisure.

Fitness & Wellness

For active families, Casa de Campo provides a tight but well out-fitted fitness center that offers various classes, from high-energy Zumba sessions to soothing yoga and Pilates.

I hit the treadmill during my stay, which are lined up window side overlooking the main pool. The fitness center has modern equipment and flexible hours, making it convenient for guests to stay active. Depending on the weather, it can be a bit warm in there but serves as an excellent place to get in a workout.

Tennis courts and one-on-one personal training sessions are also available, along with a luxurious spa for parents seeking relaxation and rejuvenation with massages, facials, and wellness treatments.

Getting to Casa de Campo: Nearby Airports

Traveling to Casa de Campo is fairly convenient, thanks to several nearby airports:

  • La Romana International Airport (LRM): Only 10 minutes from the resort, this is the most convenient airport for guests. Families flying into La Romana can enjoy a quick transfer to the resort, making it easy to start their vacation without a lengthy drive. For American travelers, this airport may be a bit more expensive due to a smaller amount of daily flights as most U.S. based airlines fly into Punta Cana.
  • Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ): About 50 minutes from the resort, this larger airport serves a wider variety of international flights. Families coming from farther destinations may find it easier to fly into Punta Cana, with scenic views along the drive to Casa de Campo.
    • This is where we flew into and it worked perfectly well. We did have some trouble finding our transfer but after a bit of searching (along with everyone else) we found our driver and was quickly ushered to our van. The drive was uneventful and dropped us off right at the front door of the resort.
  • Las Américas International Airport (SDQ): Located around 90 minutes away, this airport is an option for families flying into Santo Domingo. While a bit further, the drive offers a scenic route along the coast, adding a beautiful start to your trip.

Understanding the All-Inclusive Program

Casa de Campo’s all-inclusive package makes it easy for families to relax and enjoy their vacation without the worry of added expenses. The program covers:

  • Meals and Snacks: All meals and snacks are included at participating restaurants, allowing families to sample a range of delicious cuisine without concern for individual costs. Kids and adults alike can enjoy a variety of dishes, from local specialties to international favorites.
  • Unlimited Drinks: The package includes unlimited beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, so parents can unwind with a cocktail while kids enjoy fresh juices and other treats. With easy access to refreshments, staying hydrated and relaxed is hassle-free. Though, remember, as noted before premium alcohol is extra!
  • Activities and Entertainment: The program includes access to non-motorized water sports, fitness classes, and many of the resort’s organized events, ensuring there’s always something fun to do. Kids can join the Kids’ Club for supervised play, while teens and adults explore different activities throughout the day.

Strangely the all-inclusive options DOES NOT include the drinks in the mini fridge. This is the first time we’ve experienced that. While the all-inclusive option provides families with everything needed for a seamless, relaxing stay, so all you have to focus on is making memories together, be sure to skip the mini fridge drinks to not receive extra charges.

Luxurious Villas: Your Private Oasis at Casa de Campo

For families seeking a more private, personalized experience, Casa de Campo’s luxurious villas offer the ultimate in comfort and convenience.

Set amidst the resort’s lush landscapes, these villas provide families with their own oasis, combining spacious accommodations with access to exclusive amenities and services that make every stay feel like home.

Ranging from cozy three-bedroom options to grand multi-bedroom estates, each villa is beautifully designed with a Caribbean flair, featuring comfortable furnishings, high-end finishes, and all the modern amenities needed for a relaxing stay. Many villas also include private pools, gardens, and outdoor spaces, perfect for enjoying the tropical surroundings in peace.
  • Private Pools and Outdoor Spaces: Many of the villas come with private pools, allowing families to relax, swim, and sunbathe in total privacy. The outdoor spaces, which often include furnished terraces, dining areas, and scenic gardens, are ideal for family gatherings, al fresco dining, or simply unwinding with a view. These spaces offer an intimate setting for enjoying the beauty of Casa de Campo away from the main resort areas.
  • Personalized Villa Service: Staying in a villa comes with the added benefit of a dedicated staff, often including a butler, housekeeper, and in some cases, a private chef. The butler is on hand to handle requests, make arrangements, and ensure that every detail is taken care of, allowing families to fully relax. For those who choose a villa with a chef, personalized meals are prepared according to your preferences, adding a delicious and convenient dining experience right at “home.”
  • Golf Carts for Easy Exploration: Each villa rental includes a personal golf cart, making it easy for families to explore the resort at their own pace. From the beach to the golf courses, restaurants, and Altos de Chavón, everything is accessible via a quick, scenic ride. This added convenience lets families experience all of Casa de Campo’s attractions without the need for shuttles or taxis.
  • Exclusive Villa Amenities: Villas come with thoughtful amenities, including fully equipped kitchens, high-speed Wi-Fi, and entertainment systems, ensuring everyone feels at home. The resort also offers a villa pre-stocking service, where staff can arrange groceries and supplies before your arrival. This service is particularly convenient for families who prefer dining in or enjoying leisurely breakfasts and snacks together without leaving the villa.
  • Ideal for Multi-Generational Families: Casa de Campo’s villas are an excellent choice for extended families traveling together. The spacious layouts, multiple bedrooms, and common areas provide the perfect setup for both privacy and togetherness, making it easy for everyone to enjoy their time together without feeling crowded.

We did not experience a villa during our stay but if you are traveling with a larger group or multiple families choosing a villa at Casa de Campo is likely to enhance your family’s experience, offering the best of both worlds—private, luxurious accommodations combined with access to the resort’s exceptional amenities and services.
